🎯 How to Prepare for the Interview
1. Technical Preparation
- CAD/Design:
- Be ready to discuss CATIA skills: 3D modeling, drafting, assemblies, and surfacing.
- Review geometry creation, constraints, and assembly methods.
- Mass/Weight Analysis:
- Brush up on how changes in material or component geometry affect center of gravity, fuel economy, and vehicle dynamics.
- Be prepared to calculate weight distribution (front/rear axle loads) with simple examples.
- Automotive Knowledge:
- Basics of vehicle systems (engine, chassis, suspension, braking).
- Familiarity with product lifecycle (concept → design → validation → launch).
- Engineering Fundamentals:
- Stress/strain basics, FEA concepts, tolerances, and GD&T.
- Material properties (aluminum vs. steel vs. composites in automotive).
2. Behavioral Preparation
- Be ready for questions like:
- “Tell me about a project where you used CAD tools.”
- “How do you ensure accuracy in your design work?”
- “Describe a time you solved a complex engineering problem.”
- Show enthusiasm for the automotive industry and willingness to learn.
3. Practical Preparation
- Review your resume projects (be very clear about what YOU did).
- If you did a thesis or project related to vehicles, be ready for follow-up questions.
- Research the automotive company/client you’ll be placed with (OEM/Tier 1 supplier).
4. Smart Tips
- Bring a portfolio (if possible): screenshots of CAD models, project reports, or academic designs.
- Revise the basics of statics, dynamics, and materials.
- Highlight your adaptability to new tools/software if needed.
